OVERWHELMING public support for Tavistock Community First Responders has resulted in the purchase of vital equipment.

Tavistock CFR had been looking to raise funds to buy a digital thermometer and a digital blood pressure monitor.

It used a social media page to ask if any companies would be interested in supporting the purchase of the £150 machines.

Tavistock CFR Paul Johnson said that the response was ‘amazing’ with several companies offering to help.

Kinship Connect was the first to offer the monies so the equipment can be purchased. Kevin Cowie, managing director for Kinship Connect, said: ‘Kinship Connect is delighted to provide support to our fabulous First Responders. As community care and independent living services, we are aware of the crucial role the ambulance service plays in our lives. This is just a small gesture in recognition of all those who freely give their time to support our wonderful community here in Tavistock and West Devon.’

Paul added: ‘We would like to thank everyone who offered support in particular Kinship Connect.

‘The response to the Facebook page was totally overwhelming and showed the true character of the local community.

‘Offers of donations and suggestions on how and where to raise the money was also given. We still have more kit to fund and we are also looking to provide more community public accessable defibrillators like the one in Bedford Square, in other parts of Tavistock. Anyone who offered funds or who would like to help please contact me on 07791184395.’

CFRs attend particular types of medical emergencies where it is essential for the patient to receive immediate life-saving care. This includes conditions such as cardiac arrest, chest pain, breathing difficulties, and unconscious patients.
