I WOULD be very grateful if you will allow me, through your letters column, to express my gratitude and thanks to all the people who have helped us over the last few weeks.

I am literally overwhelmed by all the support and kindness shown by so many, many people.

The messages and acts of support, either directly or indirectly, have been very welcome and have helped us over three extremely difficult weeks.

There are some people who have helped us in the most unselfish manner, you just would not believe, and to those people, I will write a personal letter of thanks.

I would also like to say a special thank you to all the Cornish farmers, some I know but most, I am afraid, I don't, for their concern and support too.

All the kindness shown to us was a very humbling experience indeed, and, whilst I am not normally stuck for words, I could not even begin to describe that feeling.

One good thing about all this was the way it showed me that, while we appear to live in a very materialistic world, people still care about other people and that's a worth you can never put a price on.

In order to dispatch a few myths and give everyone interested an insight into the story behind the headlines.

I will send an information sheet, which will also give consumers some handy tips on how to reduce your water charges. Please send a stamped addressed envelope, size at least 4"x9" to the address below.

Once again, many, many thanks.
