AS from April 1 anyone aged 60 or over will be able to swim at Meadowlands Leisure Pool, Tavistock, or Parklands Leisure Centre Okehampton free of charge.
Government funding will enable the initiative to go ahead, operated by Leisure Connection on behalf of West Devon Borough Council.
Tavistock swimmers recently called to collect their free swim wards, and are looking forward to next week when they will be able to swim free of charge at any timetabled swim session.
Cllr Robert Sampson, chairman of the council's environment and community committee, said: 'We hope plenty of people will take advantage of this scheme and use the pools in West Devon on a regular basis.
'Swimming is a safe and enjoyable way of meeting the need to be active. It is a good all round form of exercise.'
All people over 60 need do to enjoy the offer is call at either pool and register for a card with Leisure Connection reception staff. On production of their card they will be entitled to free entry whenever a swimming session is programmed.
