STUDENTS were rejoicing after opening the results to their hard-earned GCSES at Callington Community College last week.
While the final data is still to be confirmed, more than 80 percent of all students achieved five or more A* — C grades, putting the college above the national average.
Eighty one per cent of students achieved A*— C grades in maths and more than seventy per cent gained A*— C grades in English. The average total point score per student has risen again this year to 513, compared with 472 in 2012. Ninety nine percent of students achieved one or more A*— C grades and 65 per cent gained five A* — C grades, including maths and English.
Head teacher Gary Lobbett said: 'I am absolutely delighted by the achievements of all our young people — I am very proud of them all.
'The progress made is the result of the dedication and commitment of our staff, the positive attitudes and determination of students and the high level of support received from parents throughout the year.
'Our young people have met and surpassed their challenging personal targets and aspirations. I am very proud of their achievements and of the teaching and support teams at the college who encourage and support students throughout the year.
'These are absolutely outstanding results. My thanks and congratulations to everyone involved.'
Top performing girl at the college was Emily Bevan who gained nine A*s and four As, and top performing boy was Daniel Mitchell with seven A*s, four As and one B.
Other notable grades included Amber Newham-Marks, eight A*s and five As, Kerra Lowther, seven A*s and 6As, Calvin Jordan, seven A*s and five As, Emily Franz, six A*s and six As, Eleanor Gosney, six A*s, four As and two Bs and Chloe Fanning, five A*s and four As.
