Tavistock v Paignton 4
TAVISTOCK Squash Club were looking for a good win against Paignton after a strong second half season.
First on was Mike Gray against Nigel of Paignton. After a nervous start to the game Mike took charge, taking the first game 9-4.
Nigel started to get his measure in the second game and forced a number of errors, but Mike regained control and took the game 9-7. In the final game there was only one outcome with Mike winning 9-1 and giving Tavistock a 3-0 game win.
Next on was Pete Middleton of Tavistock playing at number 4 against Chris Blackler. Pete made hard work of the first game which he sneaked 10-8. In the second Pete started to strike the ball better and tighter which forced errors from his opponent, and won the game 9-5. Chris was starting to tire and Pete capitalised in the third game, taking it 9-4, giving Tavistock a six points to nil lead against Paignton.
Next up was Stuart Cox of Tavistock against Andy of Paignton. Stuart took the first two games with relative ease, 9-2, 9-2.
The third was closer, but Stuart?s determination won through and he took it 9-5 and the tie 3-0.
Colin Grice playing at No 2 was up against Martin Rogers of Paignton. Colin disposed of Martin, taking the match 9-2, 9-6, 9-6.
It was left to Andy Gauler to keep Tavistock?s 100% points tally in order.
Andy was up against an experienced Rob from Paignton. Andy maintained the points score and won the match 9-4, 9-7, 9-0.
Tavistock were outright winners, taking the match five ties to nil and an unusual 20 points to nil win, a commendable performance from a reduced strength side.
