I WOULD like to thank you for giving wonderful exposure (Times, December 18) to the Santa's Crystal Grotto and Gift Fayre.
The event was sponsored and organised by ourselves but could not have happened without the considerable help of the Scouts, Guides and other volunteers, and the support of local traders, West Devon Borough Council and Tavistock Town Council.
The outdoor attractions, namely the reindeer and the sleigh rides were a great success, enjoyed both by the public and patients of various caring organisations.
The main indoor attraction of Santa's Crystal Grotto was also a big hit, with nearly 200 children seeing Santa during the event.
The Gift Fayre was a reasonable success, though coinciding with the shock of the 'credit crunch' did not help.
The entertainment evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all, with special thanks going to the Regarding Eve theatre group and the Tavistock College Gospel Choir who performed at the event.
I would like to point out, however, that your article was inaccurate in one important point – we are not a charity and we never use this term to describe our organisation or our work.
We undertake activities like this event on a not for private profit basis, but we are organised as a private limited company which serves the Flight Of The Phoenix community.
We are hoping to build on this event to do bigger and better next year, and thanks once again for your support.
