CAT lovers with outdoor accommodation are needed to give homes to 30 cats.

The RSPCA in Plymouth has launched an appeal for outdoor accommodation for the feral cats after the death of their elderly Brentor owner.

Most of the untamed cats are currently being cared for by the RSPCA on the smallholding, but eight grey and white kittens and an adult female, who have cat flu, are being looked after at Elm Cottage Veterinary Hospital in Plymouth.

All the cats will be neutered, spayed and microchipped before being rehomed and the usual RSPCA homecheck procedure will apply.

The kittens should eventually be socialised and be suitable as house cats, but it is hoped that farmers, smallholders or landowners with barns or out buildings will offer outdoor homes for the rest of the colony.

RSPCA rehoming co-ordinator Jackie Mayling said: ?A feral cat is the ideal pet for a person with sheltered barns who doesn?t want a cat in the house. It would be unfair to keep a normal domestic cat in such conditions, but they are ideal for cats such as these, and often farmers like to have a population of ferals on a farm.?

Anyone wishing to rehome the cats, which need to live in pairs or threes, should telephone Jackie Mayling on 01752 221088.
