THE second evening of swimming at the Okehampton Otters club championships proved to be even more exciting than the first.

Many of the age group trophies were still up for grabs with some swimmers entering their better strokes on the programme.

As last week, some of the longer standing records were swept aside by some determined swimming.

Charlotte Rowe erased the record for the 10 years 4 x 25 m individual medley (im). This was set back in 93. Similarly, her sister, Rebecca,11/12 years, did the same in her age group in the im from 94. Lastly, Cameron Huxtable wrote himself in the records list by gaining the 11/12 years 50m back .

In total a further 18 championship records fell on the evening. These were set by Cody Duncan 8/u 25m fly, Matthew Westlake 10 years 50m free and im, Rebecca Rowe 11/12 years 50m free, 50m back and im, Cameron Huxtable 11/12 years 50m back, Daniel Worrall 50m free, Matthew Wise 13/14 years 50m back, Gareth Jones im, Jo Cade 50m back and 200m free, Aaron Diaz 15/16 years im, Jenny Rice 50m free, im and 200m free, Paul Biddle open im and Jenny Rice open im.

Even last week's total of 109 personal best swims was beaten by a grand total of 111 - this shows many had put in a great deal of hard work in training to get such high numbers.

This year's championships were probably the best yet, with many close finishes in events and overall standings.

The club's annual meeting and prize-giving night will be held on Monday December 17 at Fairplace Church Hall at 7pm for 7.30pm. Please make an effort to attend and enjoy a cup of coffee and a chat.
