Carlsberg South West Peninsula premier Okehampton Argyle 3 Ottery St Mary 3 THIS was a great game with both sides playing fast and open football from start to finish. It was Argyle that took an early lead when the Ottery defence struggled to cope with the pace and strength of Steve Williams forcing the ball in within ten minutes of the start. Ottery played some attractive football and caused Argyle several problems keeping the Argyle defence of Mathew Mortimore, James Williams, Michael Vernon and Elliot Collins on their toes. Argyle continued to ask questions of their opponents and always looked threatening, with Chris Wills raiding down the right flank and Steve Kinsey linking up well with Robbie Clark on the other side, while Phillip Evans and Robbie Miller worked tirelessly in the middle of the park. Argyle increased their lead when Steve Williams once again was quick to react to a through ball. Holding off determined defenders he placed the ball wide of the Ottery keeper. Ottery pulled a goal back and enjoyed a good period of play, forcing Argyle's keeper Daniel Malcolm to pull off a couple of really good saves. Late into the first half Argyle won a corner and Chris Wills delivered to the edge of the Ottery box, finding Mathew Mortimore with a superb half volley to hammer the ball in wide of the keeper. Ottery came out in a really determined fashion in the second half and kept the pressure on Argyle, getting their reward early in the second half with a scrappy goal on the far post. With the game still flowing from end to end both keepers had to be at their best. This time it was Ottery's keeper that pulled off two superb saves to deny Argyle. Argyle were a touch unlucky when a clear penalty ball was turned away when a Phillip Evans low drive was stopped short of the line by the Ottery defender handling not once but twice to turn the ball over for a corner. Ottery levelled the game in the 88th minute when their number 12 got in behind the Argyle defence to hammer a close range shot past the keeper and high into the net to deny Argyle all three points. l This week Argyle are at home to Plymstock, kick- off 2.45pm.
