A SPECIAL series of excursions across Dartmoor have been organised to enable horse-riders to explore the moor, a pleasure denied for several months during this year's foot and mouth crisis.
The rides have been organised by Spooners and West Dartmoor Foxhounds, with the first event taking place in September.
More than 45 riders of all ages took part in the ride across the moor from the hunt kennels at Sampford Spiney.
The day included 'pit-stops' at the Plume of Feathers at Princetown and at the Merrivale and concluded with a barbecue at the kennels.
A full programme of rides has now been organised for October.
Spooners Master of Foxhounds Guy Morlock said: 'We want to be able to show riders the remoter areas of the moor and boost riders' confidence.'
All money raised will be used to support the Foxhounds.
Children under 14 should be accompanied by an adult — protective equipment must be worn.
The programme begins this Saturday with a ride from Lane End to Fur Tor.
The following Saturday riders will travel from Postbridge to Fur Tor.
