A BUSINESS in Bratton Clovelly supplying organic produce has been selected as a finalist for a prestigious award. Eversfield Organic has been selected as a finalist in the prestigious Soil Association 2014 Organic Awards. The business supplies organic meat and wild game as well as organic vegetables, soups, sauces and cheese. The firm's medium meat box is a top ten finalist in the 'Best Box Scheme' category. Previously known as the Organic Food Awards, the awards have been showcasing the best in organic for 28 years. 2014 saw an expanded range of categories for the first time so that organic fashion, restaurants, health and beauty products and even holidays can be recognised. Initial shortlisting was undertaken by a panel of high profile judges including Radio 4's Sheila Dillion, Jo Wood, Liz Earle and Daily Telegraph writer Xanthe Clay. Earlier this year Eversfield Organic received a silver 'Taste of the West' award for their pork sausages which are made to their own recipe as well as a gold award for their chicken breast. The firm's native herd of cattle along with their lambs are grass fed throughout their whole lives. This means that the livestock is reared on a natural diet of grasses, hedges and rushes rather than grains or cereals. The firm is expanding rapidly, supplying shops, restaurants, and online supermarket Ocado with some of their organic meat boxes since November 2013. From July, the business has also been supplying some of their individual product lines to Ocado. The competition winners will be determined by a public vote, which is open now until Tuesday, September 30.
