A TEENAGER from West Devon has been selected as one of the four recipients of the first ever organic milk suppliers co-operative (OMSCo) bursary. Seventeen-year-old George Steer from Gulworthy will use his bursary to study a foundation degree in agriculture at Bicton College. George feels the course will extend his knowledge beyond the practical issues of farming, enabling him to run the family farm effectively in years to come. The bursary, intended to support young farmers looking to further their agricultural careers, was launched by OMSCo in January at the soil association conference. The £3,500 given to young farmers this year by OMSCo represents a part of its investment in strengthening the future of the UK organic dairy industry. Rosie Palmer, marketing manager for OMSCo, said: ?We value our members and recognise that the future of organic dairy farming depends on attracting new, younger entrants into organic dairy farming. ?This bursary marks an important step in OMSCo's continuing investment in the long-term future of the British organic dairy industry.?
