George Gillan cup
Ordulph FC 2
United Services 3
HOLDERS Ordulph were knocked out of the George Gillan cup by United Services and will not be able to defend the trophy they won so emphatically last season.
Ordulph will be kicking themselves after gifting United Services two goals and having the most of the chances and possesion during a second half when they were camped in their opposions half.
Services took the lead when Ordulph were caught asleep from a corner and the United Service striker was in oceans of space to fire home.
Ordulph responded when Ben Stephens forced a superb save from the visiting keeper and Gliddon also forcing a save from an Aggiss cut back.
Ordulph drew level when Joel Anderson smashed home from close range. The Ordulph were soon in front when James Phillpotts won the ball in midfield and his percision chip allowed Stephens to chest down and unleash a screamer into the bottom corner.
The host were then close to extending their lead but could not kill off the match — the sucker punch was dealt when United services scored after Ordulph lost possession and were caught with the long ball.
The second half was barely five minutes old when an error by Phillpotts was punished by the away team to score the winner.
To their credit the Ordulph dominated the second half, Aggiss drilling a header against the bar, Seb Krotke having a shot cleared off the line and Paul Hoskin must still be wondering how the Services keeper managed to keep out his close range effort.
