Tamar League A Division Ordulph Taverners v Calstock WITH the dark and foreboding clouds gathering from the west this game always looked like one that would never survive the English monsoon season. On the bright side however the Ordulph opening attack held the ?shiney cherry? for the first time in many a week as Sutton won the toss and unsurprisingly elected to inflict a damp wicket on Calstock. Making the most of the conditions the opening attack of Folley and Langton bowled with accuracy and kept the Calstock openers under wraps for several overs. Wickets however were hard to come by due to a combination of sloppy fielding, dropped catches, and some gritty determination from the Calstock batsmen. As the afternoon wore on and several more chances for Ordulph going begging, Calstock decided to seize the initiative and started to up the pace. Despite losing Pomeroy and McLean to Langton, and Davies (21) to Folley, the Calstock run rate was fast making up ground with some unconventional, but effective, shot making. Held together by a patient 55 from captain Lambert, and an aggressive 30 from Wright, the Calstock innings pushed on towards a respectable score, given the batting conditions. An inspirational bowling change from skipper Sutton brought things a little more under control with the introduction of Lethbridge (1 for 35) and more importantly (Rotton 3 for 12) who started to work through the Calstock middle order and tail. Ordulph?s bowlers made the chances and fielders Langton, Whitfield, Bellamy, and Folley snapped up the catches. Finishing their innings on 150 for 9, Calstock could be pleased with their afternoon?s work as they trudged through the sodden outfield, and steady rain, on their way to tea. During tea the rain continued and even though Ordulph made a start to their innings, the lost cause was brought to an end after three overs when Calstock?s Lusher nearly ended up on his back bowling from three paces. Game abandoned, this was a game Calstock could take more pluses from than Ordulph, 9 points each, match drawn.
