Okehampton 1st XV 3 DHSOB 3 OKEHAMPTON could only manage a draw at Stonehouse Creek on Saturday in a well-fought contest that saw few opportunities for either side to take the lead. It was Okehampton that broke the deadlock when Dave Wills slotted away a penalty 30 yards out after Lee Carey was cut down with a high tackle as he charged through the DHSOB centres. Some poor handling coupled with bad weather conditions saw a very ordinary backs display from both teams encouraging both teams to keep it tight in an attempt to retain possession. Both packs worked well around the park and matched each other man for man, scrummaging well and cleaning up lots of loose ball. The back three of each team worked hard all day, fielding a lot of chips in behind the back lines and chasing up on through balls and kicks to touch. There was a strong Fijian flavour to the DHSOB back line matched well by the Okehampton team who defended well all day. Ali Mason and Adam Curtis tackled well again scything down the opposition and leaving a few sore ribs in their wake. The scores were levelled about 10 minutes from the end of the game when a contentious decision went against Okehampton and DHSOB equalised leaving the scores at 3 apiece. Okehampton will look forward to entertaining DHSOB at the Show Field on the last day of the season in a clash that could determine the top spot. Next week home to Bideford First XV.
