Tavistock 2nd XI v Bideford 2nd XI

TAVISTOCK maintained their push for promotion with a hard earned victory against a young Bideford side.

John Rich lost the toss again and Bideford decided to bat on a firm wicket.

Tavistock started superbly with opening bowler James Brown breaking through with his third ball. Bideford then fought back with the help of dropped catches all around the ground.

Tavistock bowled well, eventually getting Bideford out with six overs remaining for 147.

Pick of the bowlers was James Brown with 3-32.

Tavistock?s innings started poorly with both Steve Johns and Paul Strawbridge going cheaply. John Townsend batted well with Brett Thomas, taking the score past 50. but both perished in quick time leaving Tavistock faltering at 60 for 4.

This brought Ben Neale and Roger Whittingham to the crease and they added 50 before Ben Neale was out for 26 and Roger Whittingham also for 26.

Dave Jeffrey, 25 not out, and skipper John Rich, 5 not out, saw Tavistock home, gaining an extra batting point for passing 150. They finished on 151-7, winning by 3 wickets and gaining 19 points.
