OKEHAMPTON Golf Club ladies? open drew competitors from as far away as Mullion in Cornwall and Taunton.
It was a closely fought competition, with the scores in most cases reflecting the poor weather conditions.
Winning the overall scratch prize and the net silver salver was Mrs Dawn Phillott with a gross 23 and net 29 points.
The first visitors? silver prize went to Mrs Sonia Sandford from Staddon Heights with 29 points. First home silver went to Mrs Pam Jarman who also had 29 points but lost to Dawn on the back 9.
Second visitors? silver was won by Mrs G Tiley, Lyme Regis, 26 points. Second home silver Mrs Lyn Atkinson, 27 points. Third visitors? silver Mrs R Spragg from Taunton and Pickeridge, and third home silver was Mrs Jenny Hutchinson with 26 points.
First visitors? bronze prize was won by Mrs S Townsley, Fingle Glen, 35 points; second, Mrs J Russell, Launceston, 32 points, and third was Mrs Sladden from Great Torrington with 30 points.
The home bronze prizes were Ms Lyn Hazelton, 37 points; second Mrs Janet Hatch, 37 points - another great fight decided on the back 9 - and third Mrs Gladys Thatcher 34 points.
The following prizes, done on scores alone, were: Mrs Doris Jewell, 31 points; Mrs Maureen Willcocks, 30 points; Ms Lorna Rolfe, 29 points.
As this event was played off 7/8 ths handicap, the scores for the day were creditable.
Nearest the pin on the fourth with 5ft 2 ins was won by Mrs J Robinson from Worleston; nearest the pin the the 12th was the lady captain Mrs Sylvia Caunter, who also won the captain?s hidden prize. The longest drive was won by Mrs Lyn Hazelton.
There were only three 2s, so these were worth 21 balls each. The winners were Mrs Sonia Sandford, Mrs Sylvia Caunter and Mrs Cherry James.
The Sheelagh Creasey team had a good win on Monday June 21. They beat Elfordleigh 6-1.
This excellent result was just what the team needed, as they have been to Elfordleigh and only managed to halve two of the matches.
Wednesday?s competition, the Tunisian Salver, had to be abandoned due to high wind and rain. This was played on Wednesday June 30. On Friday June 25 the league went to Libbaton, but lost all six matches, the Libbaton ladies played very well.
Okehampton played their July medal on Monday July 12, because on Wednesday the course was in use for the annual three ball open.
Scoring on the day was good, and winning the silver division was Marcia Halwill with an excellent net 68. Second was Kath Mansell net 69.
The bronze winner was Maureen Willcocks with net 77; second was Chris Stevens net 78.
The competition standard scratch was was brought back to 69. There was a good entry for a Monday of 15 ladies.
The ladies held their annual outing at High Boolean Golf Club on Wednesday July 14 with 26 ladies taking part.
The day was a great success, with some good golf played. This no doubt was due to everyone being relaxed with no pressure of qualifiers or match play.
Format for the day was three ball better ball.
The winning team with a magnificent 96 points was Katz Mainsail, Chris Stevens and Maureen Willcocks.
Two teams followed with 90 points, Cherry James, Sally Griffin and Eileen Harrison taking second place with an excellent 52 points on the back 9. Third was Marcia Jones, Val Dodsworth and Janet Hatch.
There were three ?twos?, Pam Jarman, Chris Stevens and Jenny Hutchinson receiving eight balls each.
The day was enjoyed by all and thanks were given to the organisers, last year?s winners Kay King, Trish Vick and Pat Kirby.
On Friday July 16 the ladies entertained Tavistock ladies in a friendly greensomes match. There were some close matches, but the home team had an excellent 5-0 win.
