Torquay Colts 41
Tavistock Colts 3
TAVISTOCK faced a plethora of Devon County players.
Tavistock started well, Mike Knapman on a good ball from a ruck and Josh Sutton put in a great touch kick. Stuart Blake won the line out and the ball was moved wide for Richard Bridle to take at pace. He was held up and Torquay cleared.
Again Tavistock came back, Duncan Law harassed their full-back and Torquay were forced to concede a penalty which Josh converted.
Torquay set up a series of attacks but a cover tackle by Seb Roberts halted the move and Louis Addaway was in to turn the ball and clear the danger.
Torquay attacked again winning a line-out in the Tavistock 22. This time they set up a drive and with superior weight were able to score.
Tavistock attacked, a drive from Darren Sutton gave the space for Mark Ewings to run into. He was just tackled and Torquay countered moving the ball wide to the wing who squeezed in to score in the corner.
The second half started badly with Knapman having to leave the field, and Torquay scoring two tries in quick succession.
Tavistock reorganised and came storming back. Peter Welsh kept up the pressure, winning a stream of balls against the head. Simon Beard proved his worth with some crunching tackles but Torquay were able to contain Tavistock and as they attacked Roberts was injured and had to retire. Moments later, Law also had to leave the field.
Torquay came back but a series of tackles by Richard Lloyd kept them out. Then in the last five minutes Torquay managed to assert themselves and scored three further tries.
Man of the match: Josh Sutton.
