A WOMAN who recently moved to the area has won a luxury food hamper after taking part in an online challenge on West Devon Borough Council's new website.

Julie Vivian took the online challenge after visiting the council's stand at Okehampton Show.

She was asked to use the council's website to find the collection day for her waste and recycling and then rate how easy or difficult it was.      

Julie, of Horndon, Mary Tavy, only moved to the area from Holsworthy two weeks ago.

She said: 'It was quite useful for me as I had just moved here and needed to know my recycling days.

'It was very straightforward.

I thought the website was very good and very helpful because you have the information all in one place and I found everything relatively easily. 

'I did give it ten out of ten — and I didn't even have my glasses on!'

Everyone who took part in the online challenge was entered into a prize draw to win a luxury hamper of local food worth £25 and Julie's name was picked at random.

The borough council launched its website earlier this year.

One of the most innovative features, called 'Where you live', allows residents to access information about a specific property including the council tax band, waste and recycling collection day and even recent or pending planning applications in the area.

Julie added:'I was also able to use the new website to work out my council tax and I have looked at planning pages — very useful.'
