THREE of Okehampton's mayors have scaled the heights of the town's ancient mayoral chapel to raise money for local youngsters.

Current mayor Cllr the Rev Mike Davies and former mayors Cllrs Tony Leech and Kay Bickley all took part in a charity abseil down St James' Chapel on Saturday to raise money and awareness for Room 13.

Room 13 on St James' Street is a venue open to all young people aged 13 to 19. Qualified and experienced youth workers provide information, advice and guidance on many issues, and the venue offers a safe and welcoming space for youngsters to meet.

The mayor admitted before the abseil that he was scared of heights, but he bravely went over the top to support the cause.

He said: 'I am pleased to report that us three town councillors all managed to abseil down St James' and survive!'
