HUNDREDS of Girl Guides, Brownies and Rainbows will gather at Tavistock Parish Church on February 19 for the dedication of a brand new standard.
The service will involve the blessing of Girl Guiding, Tavy Division?s new flag, which features various symbols of West Devon life such as the River Tavy gates, Brent Tor, the symbol of Drake?s Drum and a Dartmoor pony.
The intricate needlework was carried out by Jenny Lawrence, Guider of 1st Horrabridge Guides, after Tavy Division?s president requested a new standard be created.
Members across the division were encouraged to contribute their ideas for the standard by entering a design competition, and every girl was given the opportunity to add a stitch.
The mayors of Tavistock and West Devon, as well as the division president and other Girl Guiding officials, will attend the service, which starts at 6pm.
Division commissioner Sue Samuel said the dedication of the standard was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for a guide.
?I?ve not been to anything like this in the 20 years I?ve been involved with the movement,? she said.
