RUNNERS and spectators are being alerted to two races on and around Dartmoor this weekend.
To tie in with the Sticklepath Flower Show, the village's Horseshoe Race is running in tandem at 1pm and starts and finishes at the Finch Foundry.
This 9.6 mile race attracts people from as far as the north of England who enjoy fell running.
Organiser Phil Haygarth, who grew up fell running in the Lake
District, would love to see more people take part.
'We never have staggering numbers and it would be nice to see some more local participation,' he said.
The following day a new race is being introduced called the Sourton Tor Race and involves running to the summit of the tor and back — approximately two miles.
Starting and finishing at Sourton Village Hall, the event is a good way to get involved in running and could be very exciting, assures Mr Haygarth. 'Short races are fun and very exhilarating and certainly get the spectators going,' he said. 'Both events will be raising money for worthy causes in the villages.'
Both races cost £3.50 to enter and profits will go to Sticklepath Sports Club, which organises lots of local events and in Sourton the funds will go to the parish church and Rapid UK.
Races can be entered on the day and people are being asked to book in for the Sticklepath Horseshoe Race from noon and the Sourton Tor Race from 10am.
