A CHEQUE has been presented to the Track 4 Tavistock Fund from the Bedford Mile event last month which has raised £30,121. The colourful spectacular, which saw 1,300 runners take part, was believed to be the largest one-off fundraiser and mass participation event in the town's history. It was a collaboration between Tavistock College, Kelly College and the Tavistock Athletics Club who want to build a top class athletics track on the grounds of Tavistock College, costing more than £300,000. Money is still being collected for the sports track and anyone who wants to make a donation can pay it into the Crowndale Recreation Association Account at Lloyds Bank in Tavistock. Martin Exley from the town's athletics club said all the organisers were delighted with the response: 'It was a very successful event and a fantastic amount of money was raised. 'We will be following it up with more fundraising and have some ideas for that but in the meantime people can carry on making donations.'
