LAUNCESTON and Callington Ploughing Association held its annual ploughing match at Weston Farm, North Petherwin, by permission of Charles Hart.

Some 50-plus ploughmen had travelled from as far afield as the Isle of Wight, Oxford and Wiltshire as well as the far South West.

Ann Wainwright, of Launceston, presented the association with a new 'Match Champion' Shield in memory of the late Clifford Jenkin who was both a talented and widely known ploughman.

Colin Heard, of Bradworthy, won the match championship and the vintage hydraulic class.  Jack Barrett, of Bray Shop, a young and upcoming reversible ploughman took the cup for the youngest competitor. Sam Medland, of Trengune, Launceston, won the novice class and Leon Vanstone, of Launceston, won the cup for the local ploughman with the highest score using a David Brown/Case/International harvest tractor.

Chairman Andrew Medland thanked all the judges, stewards and Mr Hart and his staff for all their hard work and help in making the day possible. Thanks also went to his partner, Phoebe, who did all the catering.
