YEAR 3 pupils at Kelly Prep School took part in the RSPB's Great Garden Birdwatch recently.

The children went out in three groups and visited different parts of the school grounds. Group 1 walked around the field with a small pond in it. They saw jackdaws, crows, blue tits, some gulls flying over, a couple of robins and a buzzard.

Group 2 walked into the woods behind the nursery. They saw jackdaws, blue tits, great tits, a chaffinch, a party of long tailed tits, a goldcrest — the smallest bird — and a special bird called a treecreeper which is brown on the back and white underneath. The treecreeper was looking for insects on the side of a tree. Group 2 also heard a nuthatch.
