THE Hatherleigh Carnival committee has announced its president and carnival queen for the 2015 event — but is still on the lookout for its prince and princess.
Gill Davis will be president for the 2015 carnival. Gill has been involved with the carnival since being on the Sunday School floats as a child. She made her first float in 1990 when her daughter Nats was princess with her now husband, Mark Wonnacott.
Gill went on to make many floats with her good friend Helen Reddaway and family. She has frequently judged the afternoon and evening processions and is always eager to watch the burning tar barrel spectacle. Her father Ken Westcott was carnival president in the 1970s.
Miss Ella-May Jevons, who watched her first carnival last year and decided that she would love to be the queen, has been named as this year's carnival queen.
The queen chooses the main beneficiaries of the carnvival providing there is a profit and Ella-May has chosen the Hatherleigh Skate Park and the Hatherleigh Guides that she attends. Ella-May and her mother Vix have plenty of ideas already for the float.
To complete the list of dignitaries the carnival committee is looking for prince and princess applicants. At least once of the couple must attend Hatherleigh or Highampton Primary School.
The successful couple will receive a grant, plus any help required from the committee, plus they have a carriage that the prince and princess could decorate and use.
In the past the committee has not chosen the prince and princess until September but have decided to pick them at this year's coffee evening on Thursday, June 25.
