FOR those who enjoy meeting new people and are looking to help a local charity, Roadford Lake Lakeside is now recruiting volunteers to man the visitor centre on a daily basis.

This exciting role will involve meeting and greeting visitors, answering questions and providing information to customers.

Full training will be provided for those whose knowledge of Roadford is limited.

Volunteers will also help with selling and displaying gifts and will assist with the new second hand book sales area which will be launching in the visitor centre in late April.

The money raised from the new second hand book sales area will further increase the funds which Lakeside currently gift to South West Lakes Trust (SWLT).

The money is then used to fund important conservation projects and educational work. SWLT is also calling for people to donate their unwanted books to Lakeside.

Colin Vallance, head of heritage and hospitality at South West Lakes Trust, said: 'Volunteering is an extremely social and fulfilling role which leaves you with the knowledge you have made a difference.'

A team of volunteers are needed, therefore any time that people can spare would be greatly appreciated, whether it's on a regular basis or occasionally.

As a charity, South West Lakes Trust relies on the support of its volunteers and recognises this formally each year at the Volunteer Awards Evening. These awards recognise outstanding contribution and provide an enjoyable social event for everyone involved.

The Visitor Centre, which adjoins the recently refurbished café, has a number of interactive displays making it ideal for people of all ages. Lakeside also has a well stocked gift shop and a children's play area, as well as some beautiful scenic walks and cycle routes.

Those wishing to volunteer should contact Tina on 01566 784859 or email [email protected]">[email protected] for an application form.

To donate books, drop them into Lakeside or contact Tina.
