THE mayors of West Devon and Tavistock were among those who came to Okehampton for the town's annual civic parade through the town on Sunday.

The parade was led from the town hall to Fairplace Church by Okehampton mayor Cllr the Rev Mike Davies and the Okehampton Excelsior Silver Band. They were accompanied by councillors and members from many local organisations.

Cadet, scout and guide groups joined the parade.

A full church listened to the civic service inside Fairplace Church. Methodist superintendent minister Rev Philip Wagstaff and mayor's chaplain Rev Simon Bourne conducted the service.

Cllr Davies said: 'There was a good turnout for the service and the parade, and good to see town organisations represented.

'It was also very good to see so many mayors from other towns coming to Okehampton and seeing what we are about. I made sure to give each one an Okehampton leaflet and hopefully they will arrange other visits and tell people about our town.'
