WHITCHURCH will be hoping for good weather on August Bank Holiday, Monday (27th) on the occasion of the opening day of their new pavilion.

All the matches planned for last weekend were washed out, leaving both the Devon League and Tamar League sides second in their respective divisions with two games to go.

The new pavilion has been built and paid for from within the club itself.

A team of volunteers led by previous chairman Rob Rawlings and long-serving club member John Sellis carried out most of the project, which was financed by donations to the club and club reserves after the Lottery grant was turned down.

A full day of events is planned, kicking off with the club's two under 15 teams playing against each other from 10am.

After that, the U15 A team will be presented with the County Cup trophy and their medals by Olympic bronze medallist Kate Allenby — Kate will then cut the ribbon on the new pavilion.

Following a buffet, there will be a match (2pm start) between a Club XI and club captain Dean Elliott's Select XI, featuring players old and new and a few guests. Weather permitting there will be a barbecue in the evening.
