FUNDRAISER Ollie Mason passed through Okehampton last Friday, on the home straight of his epic fundraiser challenge.
On July 4, Ollie, a freelance graphic designer, set out on a 1,000 mile walk from John O'Groats to Land's End, carrying 20 litres of water unaided on his head and shoulders.
While Ollie passed through Okehampton, he paid a visit to the town's Oxfam shop, chatting to staff about his challenge.
He also got support from OK Leisure, where a member of his support team received a discount on a waterproof coat to help fight the rain during the final legs of the challenge.
Ollie has trained for almost two years for his challenge, which aims to emulate the daily struggle faced by millions of people across the world who are forced to walk huge distances to have access to a water supply.
Ollie said: 'The walk is wearing, but we are nearly there. The skies of Ben Nevis were a real highlight, standing at the top there was brilliant. It was a battle to get up there, with terrible rain, but it was worth it.'
As well as the weather, Ollie has faced other challenges, including seeing one of his support vehicles crashed into by a dustcart. But he and his team have battled on through and he should finish his journey on Saturday.
So far, Ollie has managed to raise around £1,500 to be split between his four charities - Water Aid, Oxfam, Music 4 Children and the Breakthrough Foundation.
