AN inspirational and record breaking journey will be recounted at a fascinating evening at Okehampton Rugby Club on Wednesday April 13.
At the age of 15 Oliver Hancox from Jacobstowe, and a Kelly College pupil, became the youngest person ever to sail solo across the English Channel, following in the footsteps of his father, Neil, who died of cancer in 2009.
Neil Hancox was the first person to windsurf across the English Channel in the 1980s, and Oliver wanted to complete the challenging journey to raise money for Cancer Research.
On Sunday August 1 2010, Oliver sailed into the French port of Treburden, just 23 hours after leaving Plymouth in his 18 foot yacht Cariad, and having raised over £12,350 for Cancer Research, substantially beating his £10,000 target.
The event at Okehampton Rugby Club on Wednesday April 13 will start at 7pm and will feature incredible footage from the voyage, as well as the opportunity to hear tales of the journey from Oliver himself. Oliver's family and friends will also be sharing the experiences that made his epic journey possible.
All donations from the evening will go to Cancer Research.
