Okehampton Seconds 20

North Tawton Firsts 5

NORTH Tawton started this local derby in fine style and played well for the first 20 minutes.

But a fine high ball booted by the Okehampton backs saw the home side cross for try.

Okehampton's forwards spurred on by this success put together some good forward drives and were rewarded when the forwards crossed the North Tawton line from a five-metre scrum to take a 14-point lead.

With Okehampton making two half-time changes on the wing North Tawton reacted likewise with Andy Pyle coming on for Neil Peters in the second row, with Cass Stoddart proving a great stand-in for injured John Stone at outside half.

It was only fitting that a try for the visitors should be due. A tap penalty by scrum half and captain Dai Roberts saw Paul Ayris, filling in at prop, burst over for a well deserved try.

North Tawton rallied for the second half and played a lot better but an Okehampton penalty plus a drop goal in the dying moments saw the home side put the game out of the visitors' reach.

Richard Nye at wing forward and Tony Beer at centre were outstanding in North Tawton's game plan against a strong Okehampton side.
