HOUSEBUILDER Persimmon Homes South West has agreed this week an exclusive sponsorship deal worth £3,500 with Okehampton Rugby Club.
Persimmon, which has recently opened a brand new housing development at Crediton Road, Okemont Grove, said it was keen to lend a financial helping hand to a local club and because rugby is such a popular sport in the area, the company knew that this would make an ideal venue in which to invest.
The one-year sponsorship will kick into action with immediate effect and will assist with the on-going running of the club, the junior section of which attracts more than 200 children a week.
In addition to branded rugby shirts for the players, the money will go towards training equipment and the upkeep of the club as it's constantly rising overheads represent a constant challenge to the club's committee.
Nina Hester, sales director for Persimmon Homes South West, said: 'We acknowledge that rugby is the premier sport in Okehampton which is why we feel it is important to invest so that it brings even greater benefits to existing players and those of the future.
'We hope that our funds will be welcomed by everyone involved with the club and that ultimately it will bring them success during the season.'
Okehampton RFC club chairman Robert Barkwell agrees that the funds will be welcomed by everyone involved with the club.
He said: 'We are very grateful to Persimmon for the sponsorship agreement and feel confident that it will provide an added boost of confidence to all the players knowing they have a large organisation behind them. It will also go some way to providing much needed equipment to help with their training.'
