THE Forget Me Not Café in Okehampton has a busy few days ahead with a series of events to mark dementia awareness week.

The first event will be held from 9am to 12.30pm on Saturday, May 13 in the Charter Hall and will have information and advice for people with memory problems and their carers.

Advice and information will be provided by a number of community groups and representatives from the emergency services. The Forget me not Café is based in Okehampton and is for people with memory problems and their carers.

One of the event organisers, Lynn Lane, said: ‘Come and meet us, have a cup of tea, cake and a chat with others that are in a similar position, in an accepting and friendly environment.

‘There will be a complementary therapist on hand to give short therapy sessions and also professionals that you can talk to if you wish.

‘The Cafe meets on the last Tuesday of each month between 2pm and 4pm at The Glen, Community Room, Castle Road, Okehampton.’

The café is also holding special events in Okehampton Library on May 15 and May 18.

Lynn from The Forget Me not Café will be at Okehampton Library from 2pm until 3pm on Monday, May 15 and and Thursday, May 18. She will be there to provide further information about the café and have a chat. Free refreshments will be provided by The Friends of the Okehampton Library.

Okehampton Library also has The Reading Well Books on Prescription for Dementia — these are books that you might find helpful if you have dementia, are caring for someone with dementia, or want to find out more about the condition.  The books include information and advice, help after diagnosis, practical support for carers and personal stories.
