A FULL programme of league matches was completed by Tavistock Tennis Club last week where overall results were somewhat mixed. However, the Juniors A and B teams are riding high in division 1 being respectively first and second. The club lost a close friendly match against Okehampton.
Results - Seniors: Mens' A team drew 4 - 4 at home against Ivybridge A. John Reeder and Andrew Lyle-Carter v their 1st pair; 0-2 sets: v 2nd pair; 2-0 sets. Simon Thomas and Rob Orton v their 1st pair; 0-2 sets: v 2nd pair; 2-0 sets.
B team lost 2 - 7 at home against Whiteford Rd A. Alan Bruce and Ray Hinton v their 1st pair; 2-1 sets: v 2nd pair; 0-2 sets. Phil Harbottle and Martin Hix 0-4 sets.
C team lost 3 - 6 at home against St.Budeaux C. Oliver Beilby and Jonathan Stephens v their 1st pair; 1-2 sets: v 2nd pair; 2-0 sets. Duncan Law and Josh Sutton

D team won 6 - 3 away to Yelverton C. Mike Jefferies and David Martin v their 1st pair; 2-0 sets: v 2nd pair; 0-2 sets. David Isaac and Bill Sparks v their 1st pair; 2-0 sets: v 2nd pair 2-1 sets.
Ladies' A- team lost 0 - 8 away to Ivybridge A. Tavistock team: Penny Deakin/Tric Locker and Annie Jefferies/ Di Kersey.
B team lost 5 - 6 away to St. Budeaux C. Sue Parsons and Tric Mowle v their 1st pair; 1-2 sets: v 2nd pair; 2-1 sets. Barbara Watson and Sara Whyman v their 1st pair; 1-2 sets: v 2nd pair; 1-2 sets.
C team lost 1 - 8 at home against Yelverton C. Kylie Martin and Masayo Ward v their 1st pair; 0-2 sets: v 2nd pair; 1-2 sets. Sue Hughes and Claudine Sparks 0-4 sets.
The Juniors A and B teams, who are both in the division 1, met for the second time this year which was a home match for the B team. The A team won again but the result of 5 - 4 was closer than previously with many hard fought points.

D- team lost 0 - 8 at home against top of the 3rd Divn, Torpoint A. Sara Whyman v their 1st player; 4-6, 1-6. Stephen Richardson and Anna Maunder v their 1st pair; 3-6, 4-6. Stephen v their 2nd player; 0-6, 1-6. Sara and Anna v their 2nd pair; 1-6, 2-6.
Friendly: Tavistock lost 3 - 5 at home against Okehampton. The match hinged on a crucial tie break set which Tavistock just lost (6-8) after some marathon rallies. Tavistock team: Jane Colegate/Tim Wallis and Melody Mason/John Burgess. Okehampton team: Sara Carter/Scot Rose and Jo Butler/Angro Lenarduzzi.
The club tournaments are currently under way where there have been a few surprise results. Finals day is planned for Saturday, July. 14.
