DESPITE a last minute change of venue Okehampton College Year 11 prom was hailed a great success last night.

On Tuesday lunchtime the college received the disappointing news that the venue for its Year 11 Prom could no longer host them. The college felt it was very important that the Year 11 students were able to celebrate their time at the college and acknowledge a very difficult year so arrangements were made for the prom to take place at Okehampton Rugby Club instead.

The evening started with the arrival of the guests in an array of transport such as tractors, lorries, a Maserati, Porsche and many more plus, a first for the college, a student on a horse! Students were treated to a meal, soft drinks, photos and a disco.

Executive principal Derrick Brett said: ‘We are so grateful to Okehampton Rugby Club for accommodating us at the very last minute and to Dave Wills Catering for stepping in to provide the menu.

‘Thank you too, to the parents who stepped in to support and decorate. The students had an absolutely fantastic time and at the end of a difficult and uncertain year it was great that we were able to overcome this obstacle so that they could celebrate their time at the college.’
