Okehampton U14s 17 Tavistock U14s 29 A HEAVY downpour just before the start between the two West Devon rivals made the ball greasy and difficult to handle. Okehampton started well, put pressure on Tavistock, and good team work resulted in a try though their threequarters. Tavistock hit back and when flanker Dan Oner broke left and ran through the defence to score with Josh Leeson converting. With Tavistock being guilty of standing off and waiting for the play to come to them, Okehampton regained the lead with a second try under the posts which was duly converted. Again the visitors came back with good individual plays, one of which resulted in Dan Oner scoring under the posts which Leeson converted. Tavistock then began to work as a team with some powerful play by the front row and number eight Mark Friend. Good linking between forwards and backs, in which Tom Rickard was prominent, led to Naill Murphy scoring an opportunist try. Okehampton responded with a try of their own following a kick and chase in which the covering defence was just beaten to the touchdown. The second half started well for Tavistock and Dan Onen scored an excellent individual try for his hat-trick, kicking over the Okehampton defence and controlling the ball over the line. With match turning into a very good game of rugby between two well balanced sides, Tavistock eventually sealed the victory with Sam Linsey racing through to touch down after good handling in the backs.
