Okehampton Colts 22 Stonehouse Sharks Colts 0 ON a wet and windy afternoon the Okes Colts started with a command of territory and possession, although the slippery conditions meant the error count was high and it took until half way through the half, before some excellent interplay and handling saw winger Jake Chisolm outstrip the defence to score a well worked try. Although the Sharks forwards were proving more than a handful in the tight, sufficient possession was being won to keep the backs busy where Carl Poynton was controlling matters efficiently, enabling Rory Honeychurch to make a number of good breaks through midfield. Space was being created for wingers Grayling and Chislom to continuously threaten, although the defence was proving resilient as John Grayling would testify after being subjected to a bone crunching tackle that stopped him dead in his tracks when in full flight. The second try was as a result of excellent communication with scrum half Radnor calling for the offload from number eight Rob Long. The ball was in turn fed to the overlap with full back Fishleigh finishing off the try in the corner. Good communication, support and handling skills all round. With a number of team changes the second half continued in similar vein. The home side began to get their line out catch and drive game going well and with conditions becoming ever more desperate, such close play was probably the best option to maintaining superiority. The Sharks defence was becoming increasingly ill disciplined being penalised off side on a regular basis. From one of a number of quickly taken penalties prop Scott Simpson crashed his way through for the Okes' third try. With conditions deteriorating to the point of being a great leveller , the Sharks showed a determined spirit in forcing the home side into a number of errors that saw them threaten the try line on a several occasions but with the Okes' defence standing firm, they were again able to work their way up field with some expansive play that defied the conditions with both Matt Wawman and James Bird being put clear to take play back into the Sharks' half. After further offside infringements from the visitors, the Okes' line out went to work with Scott Simpson rounding off good work from the forwards with the final score. On a difficult afternoon for kicking Keilly drove over a powerful kick against the elements for a terrific conversion to bring the final score to 22 – 0 to the Okes . l The management and players thank Derek Wilson and his team at A30 RESCUE for their sponsorship of the Colts warm up shirts .
