THE Mary Tavy Coronation Hall production of Mother Goose has been struck with a number of knock-backs — but will soldier on to provide an entertaining performance.

The cast has battled against bad weather, illnesses and even lightning, but will be giving three performances as long as no more disasters strike!

Producer Marilyn Hamshere said: ' The pantomime was originally scheduled for early February but we've had a never-ending string of unavoidable circumstances, ill health and bad weather. It has been a challenge.'

The string of disasters started with cold, flu and stomach bugs affecting members of the cast, followed by snow and ice, which made rehearsing for the pantomime impossible. The bad weather continued to affect the production when lightning struck the hall, causing electrical problems.

Marilyn said: 'There was lightning but we had no reason to believe it had affected anything. It wasn't until the WI used the sound system that we discovered that it didn't work.'

As well as the sound system, a portion of the lighting system was affected.

'We haven't been able to have a technical rehearsal. Everything has conspired to do its best to make our production fail.'

The cast has also had less time to practise, due to more groups using the hall.

Despite all the problems, the pantomime is due to be very entertaining.

Marilyn said: 'It will be the traditional Mother Goose story with pantomime hints. There will be a lively opening scene that will not be expected by the audience, with rock versions of the nursery rhymes.'

Due to the setbacks, there will now only be three performances. 'We're stuck with three performances, which is a shame because the cast has put so much effort into it.' said Marilyn.

The first performance will take place at the Mary Tavy Coronation Hall on Friday March 12 at 7.30pm, followed by two shows on Saturday March 13 at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

'With only three performances, you must book early to avoid disappointment.'

Tickets are available from Mary Tavy Post Office and Stores on 01822 610395. Adult tickets are £5, OAPs £4, children £2.50 and a family ticket will cost £12. All proceeds will go to the hall fund.
