THE new captain of Tavistock Golf Club Mike Apps had his official drive in on Saturday May 6. Some 160 members took part on the day raising £290 to start the fundraising for his nominated charities for the year, which are: Macmillan Nurses, Dogs for the Disabled and CHICKS. Mr Apps is looking forward to as successful a year as his predecessor Graham Dennis, who raised £5,000 for his charities. Mr Apps thanked all those who had helped make the day a success, especially those who helped run the refreshment tent and the barbecue. The day?s winners were Alan Gawman and Nick Mier, Tom Dodd and Max Clarke, Chris Bryant and Steve Thackham, Phil and Sue Gawman and Sue Coles and Fran Horton. The winner of the ?guess where the Captain?s drive finished? was Dave Burge. As well as the normal club events which culminate in the Captain?s Charity Day on September 16 this year the club is proud to host, together with Yelverton, The English Golf Union seniors championships in June. Following Mr Mike Apps drive-in as the new men?s captain, a team event was very well supported. Results were as follows:- 1, Alan Gawman/Nick Mier 44 pts; 2,Tom Dodd/Max Clarke 43 pts; 3, Chris Bryant/Steve Thackman 42 pts. Other competition results : Mid week Stableford of May 3: Div 1 Nick Mier 40pts; Div 2 Brian Biggadyke 38pts.
