Old Public Oaks 10

IN this important league game North Tawton faced newly demoted OPOs.

North Tawton started by playing into a strong wind and some good defence plus some surges into the visitors' half saw them hold their own in the first 30 minutes.

But despite excellent defence from North Tawton backs and forwards alike Old Public Oaks went ahead in the last quarter of the first half with a pushover try in the corner. It was quickly followed by an opportunist try after North Tawton found it difficult to clear against the strong wind. Following a scrum OPOs whipped the ball out to the wing for a score in the corner to leave the home side 10 points adrift at the interval.

North Tawton, consisting of a mixture of first and seconds were again unlucky when the wind dropped in the second half to put the game on a more even playing field.

Despite excellent individual play on North Tawton's behalf plus many incursions into the visitors' half they were no match for a well drilled, no nonsense team from Plymouth.

The result leaves North Tawton near the bottom of their league despite some good individual performances.

l North Tawton Firsts are away to Dartmouth in the league, while the Seconds are away to South Molton Seconds, kick-off 2.30pm.
