Devon and Cornwall League

Plymstock Albion Oaks 11

TAVISTOCK recorded a convincing victory over lowly Oaks scoring nine tries in the process. But although dominating the game Tavistock, with some poor finishing and decision making, probably lost a few more scores.

This victory keeps Tavistock well in the promotion hunt, level on points with Okehampton and Crediton and just two points behind leaders Penryn. With just three games remaining the promotion issue from the Cornwall and Devon league looks like going to the wire.

Tavistock were too strong all around and this became apparent from the off when forwards and backs played at a pace that was too fast for the Oaks. The first to benefit was veteran second row forward Andy Hunt, who found himself on the end of a flowing move and galloped in from 20 metres.

Tavistock increased their lead with a try from number eight Jude Rotten, the same player scored his second to extend the lead.

After some indiscipline at a couple of breakdown situations, Tavistock were twice penalised and Oaks number eight Ashley Parson banged over a couple of long range penalties to reduce the arrears. However as half time approached, Tavistock got the show back on the road as Jude Rotten completed a hat trick of first half tries.

A half time dressing down from coach Steve Rush seemed to work, as during the second half Tavistock turned on the style to run away with the victory.

The first to score was winger Alex Moy who benefited from some good hands putting him into space. The winger still had some work to do before rounding the defence to score. James Kaminski then scored his first try of the afternoon and soon after Mark Kerswill, on as a second half replacement for Tim Child, barged over for a try, converted by Kaminski.

Tavy were forced back deep into their own territory during a slack period and Oaks number eight Ashley Parsons was driven over from a close range lineout.

The final scores of the game all came from Tavistock fly half Kaminski as he grabbed two further tries, one of which he converted. This Saturday Tavistock host joint second placed Okehampton at Sandy Park in a fixture that will shape the promotion outcome. Kick off 2.30pm.
