TAVISTOCK'S Bedford Hotel hosted the Queen Alexandra's Royal Naval Nursing Service (QARNNS) Association annual meeting last week.

The QARNNS Association Devon and Cornwall branch meets three times a year and last week's meeting was attended by 47 members from across the two counties.

It was also an opportunity to present Warrant Officer 2 Jim Morris, of Hasler Company, the south west's rehabilitation facility for injured servicemen and women based in HMS Drake, a cheque for £1,600. The money was raised earlier in the year when association members rose to the challenge to run, walk or cycle around Burrator Reservoir.

The sponsored event was held in honour of the Hasler Company, which has strong links with the nursing arm of the Royal Navy, as many of those assigned for rehabilitation have been treated by the naval nurses who have served in Iraq and more recently Afghanistan.

Joining the ladies during the Burrator event were several members of Hasler Company who were happy to share their experiences and in doing so demonstrated their personal courage to overcome injuries, whether physical or emotional.
