SOME of the richest and most delicious ice cream to be found anywhere at the show was being provided by Devonshire Farmhouse Ice Cream in the food and drink pavilion.

Made at Higher Murchington Farm near Chagford, the ice cream is made with Guernsey milk before being churned into 20 different flavours, from vanilla and chocolate to mango, strawberry pavlova and honeycomb.

Also being provided on the stand, as if the ice cream wasn't rich enough, was the farm's own traditionally made clotted cream, which had won first prize.

Jane Bennett said it had been a good — if challenging — year for business.

'It's been a difficult year on the farm, the weather wasn't good last year, the food for the cows wasn't there, they were all a bit depressed and they had wet feet all summer.

'And of course the ice cream parlours weren't selling so well either.'

Higher Murchington Farm has been making ice cream for some 30 years — and now supplies to two Michelin-starred Gidleigh Park, the Three Crowns in Chagford and other local pubs, hotels and restaurants.
