Torpoint Athletic 4

Bere Alston United 0

BERE Alston went to the home of reigning champions and current league leaders Torpoint full of confidence, but came away ruing a host of missed chances that should have seen them grab a share of the spoils.

Bere started brightly with Steve Piper and Darren Smalley putting in some dangerous crosses and Mike Curtis going close.

The hosts were clearly rattled and Bere should have gone in front when Graham Galway was put through by Aaron Rockey, but he shot tamely at the keeper.

Two minutes later and Galway was sent racing clear by Mike Curtis, but again he shot straight at the keeper.

Bere were made to pay for those missed opportunities when Torpoint's Darren Shepard seized on a misplaced pass from Galway and cut in from the right before setting up Graham O'Neill for a tap in at the far post.

Darren Hicks started to cause problems down the Bere right flank and they almost made it two when O'Neill saw his goal bound effort cleared off the line by Nathan Harvey.

Bere created chances of their own and Graham Galway was unlucky not to equalise when his header was well saved by Torpoint's keeper Sleeman.

However Torpoint went up the other end and an O'Neill cross saw Dean Cardew head home to make it 2-0 to the hosts at the break.

Bere started by putting pressure on Torpoint for long periods, but squandered chances, while Bere keeper Craig Howells pulled off three wonderful saves to keep his side in the game.

A Darren Hicks goal though for Torpoint's third effectively killed the game.

Bere's Mike Curtis and Nick Aplin both missed good chances of a consolation goal and in the closing minutes, Torpoint substitute Liam Thornton weaved past a static Bere defence to make it 4-0 and complete a miserable afternoon for the visitors.
