Devon Premier cup Okehampton Argyle 0 Exeter Civil Service 1

OKEHAMPTON were not at the top of their form for this round two match but they certainly deserved to win it.

Even with injuries to key players, they still looked the better side and they dominated the first half, but still went in at the break with a 0-0 scoreline.

Argyle put together some good moves early on and midway through the half, a series of corners saw Matt Mortimer's header beat the Civil keeper Tony Ali only to be cleared off the line.

As the half progressed, Argyle won several corners in succession and several good efforts were cleared off the line by Civil defenders.

Then with five minutes left to the break, Argyle appeared to have broken the deadlock when a lovely through ball saw Steve Madge come round his defender and curl the ball past the keeper and into the net. The referee at first awarded the goal but the Civil linesman flagged for offside and after some discussion the referee reversed his decision.

Civil Service began the second half in better form and five minutes in, won a corner on the right. Okehampton did not deal with this well and the ball broke loose to James Clampin who fired home from ten yards. Argyle came back at their visitors but their moves started to show some desperation as the game progressed. Towards the end of the game, tempers became frayed and the referee handed out a series of yellow cards to both sides. Unfortunately for Argyle Matt Mortimer was sent off five minutes from time for a second bookable offence.

This was a disappointing result for Okehampton but at least it means they can now concentrate on the league.
