Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 1 St Agnes 2 THE game opened with Tavistock on the attack and the quick running play of Laura Stapleton, Susannah Boulle and Emma White resulted in the ball being fed into the opposition?s ?D? within the first few minutes of the match. Jo Gaspar received the ball in the ?D? to shoot an excellent goal past the keeper. Tavistock continued to work hard despite the constant strong attacking from the opposition. Fiona Dunn and Zoe Viggers worked hard at the back and were able to send players off the back line as they had no-where else to go on the pitch. Bex Creasy, goalkeeper, gave some good early calls allowing Tavistock to pick up what would have been free players in the ?D?. A short corner was awarded to the opposition and despite Dunn being out strong which resulted in St Agnes having to pass the ball rather than take the direct strike, the shot was then taken from the angle and no Tavistock player was guarding that particular goal post. With the score at 1-1, St Agnes looked the more determined team and kept the strong attack upon Tavistock?s midfield and defence. Boulle and White continued to work hard and with determination despite being pushed around by the opposition. Viggers continued to play well and fed the ball to White and Gaspar. Judy Miller hit an excellent ball out wide to Laura Armstrong, but the ball was travelling at a speed that Armstrong could not catch up with. St Agnes were back in Tavistock?s ?D? and despite Stapleton, Dunn and Boulle working hard to prevent any direct strike the ball came through and slid past Creasy. At half-time the score was 2-1 to the opposition and Tavistock knew that they were going to have to be more lively in all areas of the pitch if they were going to have a chance to equalise the match. Unfortunately this did not happen and when White had the ball the only option when in the attacking 25yd area was Gaspar who was being seen as a potential threat to the opposition. Numerous short corners were awarded to Tavistock and despite Stapleton and Gaspar having some good strikes the rebound shot from the post was always miscalculated or not even played. Dunn fed a strong ball in from a long corner and if someone had been on the post then the goal would have been secured. The defence of Tavistock had little to do in the second half but the ball just could not get past the atacking 25yd area. Tavistock did not appear to be as goal hungry as the opposition and this inevitably was one of the factors that prevented Tavistock from winning the match. This week Tavistock play their last match before the Christmas break against Exeter 3rd XI at west Exe School, 11am. Tavistock: Bex Creasy, Fiona Dunn (captain), Sandra Collar, Susannah Boulle, Emma White, Laura Stapleton, Zoe Viggers, Julia Firth, Jo Gaspar, Judy Miller, Laura Armstrong.
