I AM in total agreement with P Ashby (Times letters, May 30) — the 'Somerfield' car park gives a very neglected impression.
Plus, I still think it is disgraceful that the toilets there were never reinstated.
When we first came to Tavistock, looking at houses ten years ago, this was the end of town we arrived in. So the 'Somerfield' car park was the first one we came to, And boy, after a long car journey, were we grateful for the loos there!
I can only imagine how visitors feel now, specially anhyone elderly, with kids, or slow at walking, when they arrive here, desperate for the look, only to learn that the nearest ones are right down at the other end of town!
A real black mark for Tavistock, I'd say!

I WOULD like to thank P Ashby for taking the time to comment (Letters, May 30) on the appearance of Brook Street car park in Tavistock.
West Devon Borough Council maintains the parking deck areas but the lifts and stairs are the responsibility of the Co-operative.
The car park is visited by our staff regularly and bulbs are replaced when necessary.
Ultimately, we would like to refurbish the car park but the cost is prohibitive given our current spending constraints.
In the meantime, we will keep the car park under review and write to the Co-op about the maintenance of the stairs and lifts.
