A NEW face was welcomed on to Tavistock Town Council after a by-election for a north ward representative last week.

Independent candidate Jeff Moody topped the poll with 418 votes, beating the second candidate, Gareth Dempster, who received 136 votes.

The north ward has an electorate of 4,524 and 558 ballots were issued, but the turnout was only 12.33 per cent. Four ballot papers were rejected.

The by-election was called after the resignation of Cllr Ashley Tossell earlier this summer.
