North Tawton 20
Buckfastleigh 9
THIS was certainly a well deserved win for North Tawton and an improvement on previous weeks.
North Tawton started strongly with good pressure in both attack and defence. They proved sturdy in the forwards, and their line-outs were skilled and accurate. The forwards battled it out down the pitch resulting in a try from captain Steve King.
Scoring within the first 10 minutes of the game was certain to boost the team's moral.
They kept this performance up with great communication between the forwards and the backs resulting in another try by centre Michael Young. The forwards played hard getting to every breakdown and constantly rucking Buckfastleigh players off the ball so taking them out of the game. Every scrum they owned.
The backs played effective moves with quick, simple passing, slices, looping and switches with backs Matt Weekes, Jack Phare and Rob McBain drawing in the defence and creating the overlap resulting in a try from winger Dave Quick.
Shortly after, another try was scored by Michael Young as a result of quick ball from the backs moving through the hands, avoiding the contact resulting in 20-9 at full-time.
This was a great game of rugby to watch and could be a turning point for North Tawton. The defence was solid, the pack was tight, and the backs showed the skill which will surely move the team forwards.
North Tawton would like to wish Keith Jones a speedy recovery from his serious knee injury received in the last game.
